Token Counter for AI Chats (Also referred to as TCAC) ("the extension") is a browser extension that displays an estimated token count overlay while you use ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. This policy explains what data the extension accesses and how it is used.
The extension does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data, conversation content, or browsing activity with the developer, or with any third party, or with any external server or service.
All token estimation happens locally in your browser. The extension reads the text you type into the chat input field on supported sites purely to calculate an estimated token count, which is displayed in the on-page overlay.
The extension uses your browser's local storage to remember your settings (such as the maximum token limit and whether the overlay is enabled) and to keep track of your current session's token count. This data stays on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.
The extension requests access to ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini pages in order to display the overlay and read the input field for token estimation. The tabs permission is used only to communicate between the extension's settings popup and the active tab, and the storage permission is used only for the local settings described above.
This extension does not integrate with, or send data to, any third-party services, advertising networks, or analytics providers.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same address with a revised "Last updated" date.
